It blows my mind that they can't recognize that since this concept doesn't exist across all languages that that's also an indication it's not universally real to the cultures exposed to sex, which is all of them. I'd bet a limb the words exist for "human male" and "human female" in every language that made it past caveman grunts even if it didn't differentiate into adult and child.
I've actually never met a language that grouped adult and juvenile human females together in one word. But every language I've studied has a word for adult human female and juvenile human female. The reason is that women and girls have different appearances and capacities. There's no need to group women and girls together.
I've never run into one either I but I'm not that familiar with the most ancient languages we have evidence of either. I find it reasonable that at some point, some language somewhere in some group went "young human female" as two words rather than a single word, or before becoming a single encompassing word, and I just like to be sure I'm speaking accurately.
Absolutely fascinating! It's great to hear the actual linguistic reasons behind the instinctive feeling (as a native English speaker) that using "they" as singular makes no sense and is very confusing. I read a lot of science fiction, and the current bunch of up-and-coming new sf authors likes to use the singular "they" and has to cram their woke religion into every story. Particularly when reading, "they" as a singular personal pronoun is incredibly confusing and annoying. I realize most of the nonbinary cult members don't like to use "it", as it has a connotation of non-human. But that could be a good thing, since it certainly removes any hint of gender. What a world we have come to live in!
They don't like it because they is trans gender meaning it doesn't specify animate or inanimate. But they could just add it to the animate gender, if it's so easy. Just practice! Just get used to it!
I would love a whole language lesson from you, I'm sure that's too much to ask but I'm always fascinated when you talk about things like Grice's Maxims and implicature and aphasia and pragmatic disorders, I try to look these things up for myself but that can only get me so far. Anyway I love your content and explanations <3
They/them are supposed to be the new default singular pronoun that everyone is okay with being referred to with.
Earlier this year I got a promotion. In the announcement email that was sent to the whole company, my manager inexplicably used "they/them" to refer to me and describe my contributions and achievements. I've never specified "my" pronouns anywhere, but apparently, I'm just supposed to be okay with someone deliberately obfuscating my sex when talking about me, making implications about my beliefs and "identity" to the whole company. It was so offensive.
I could not decide whether to say anything about it and ended up keeping silent, which I also despise. Just put a whole damper on getting the promotion.
Just wanted to share this with you - you did a FFS (for fucks sake/facial feminisation surgery!) video on this guy a while back - he seems to be lurching from bad to worse with recent issues of further surgery - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6NCg4u2x3I
Would like for you to do a reaction and update video as only you can!
Thank you for all you do and I hope you're getting your apartment woes sorted ASAP xx

Hi Ex, great video once again.
