What a twat mansplaining the unexplainable because its too dumb to realise he ain't special he's just a castrated male and always will be, yeah newsflash sonny you look like a man with dumbass nails and squitchy hair. No woman is AFAB dear sex is observed not assigned, nor is a woman cis, we don't need labels to know what we are, trans identifying males need to label themselves due to their own fetishism and the lifelong medication (stupidly allowing doctors to butcher and drug you) and you still will never be women

"castrated male" seems close though technically speaking, once an XYer is castrated he no longer has a sex, he's a sexless eunuch.

But I wonder what it is that he thinks makes him a female. Presumably because he now has an ersatz vagina -- only his gynecologist (? 🙄) can say for sure!!

However, a rather large number of people, including ostensibly credible newspapers, seem to be of the same view given their blathering about "sex-change operations" -- part and parcel of the Big Lie being peddled to autistic and dysphoric children. But a view that is intrinsic to the definition of "sex" as our genitalia, at least as euphemisms:

"sex: 1.1 euphemistic [in singular] A person's genitals."

https://web.archive.org/web/20190326191905/https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/sex

"Change your genitalia, change your sex! Act Now! Offer Ends Soon!" 🙄

But that raises, or should raise, the question as to exactly what it is that qualifies any of us as members of the sex categories. Kind of depends on the definitions we CHOOSE -- because it is a matter of choice; there's no intrinsic meaning to the words "male" and "female".

However, the standard biological definitions -- endorsed by various reputable biological journals, and by Oxford Dictionaries -- stipulate that to have a sex is to have functional gonads of either of two types, those with neither being sexless:

"Female: Biologically, the female sex is defined as the adult phenotype that produces the larger gametes in anisogamous systems.

Male: Biologically, the male sex is defined as the adult phenotype that produces the smaller gametes in anisogamous systems."

Men do not become sexless when they are castrated. They are still men.

Expand full comment
Steersman's avatar

Actually, they do in fact become sexless.

Try reading and thinking about those definitions, the ones endorsed by the Journal of Molecular Human Biology, and by Oxford Dictionaries.

They SAY that to have a sex is to have functional gonads -- you think castrated "males" have those?

By the biological definitions, functional gonads are what are called the "necessary and sufficient conditions" for membership in the male and female sex categories. It necessarily follows that those without them can not be considered members of those categories.

Try reading and thinking about the principles that undergird our definitions -- it's not a free-for-all; big part of the problem is that it has become that:

"An intensional definition gives meaning to a term by specifying necessary and sufficient conditions for when the term should be used. In the case of nouns, this is equivalent to specifying the properties that an object needs to have in order to be counted as a referent of the term."

By your reasoning, after menopause all women are sexless. And all the many male animals that have been castrated are sexless too.

By your reasoning, prior to gonadal differentiation and development, all embryos are sexless too.

I think you're the one that doesn't understand the biological definition of sex.

Expand full comment
Steersman's avatar

So what if they're sexless? Do the definitions I've quoted say that to have a sex is to have functional gonads or not?

That IS the logical consequence of those definitions; they weren't "designed" to pander to women's vanity or to transwomen's envy. They were "designed" to reflect brute biological facts, to provide a system of categorization that was applicable to, and useful in understanding millions of sexually-reproducing species. Including the human one.

You might actually try reading that MHR article -- even the Glossary and Abstract -- because it gives solid evidence and justification for defining the sexes that way. Virtually the whole process of sexual differentiation -- sexual dimorphism in a nutshell -- over the last billion years or so, and within literally millions of species was due to anisogamy, due to the fact that there are two different types of gametes in most sexually reproducing species:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anisogamy

Too many -- encompassing a cast of thousands if not millions of women, feminists, transactivists, and assorted grifters, charlatans, scientific illiterates, and political opportunists -- have been desperately engaged in turning those categories into "immutable identities" based on some "mythic essences". No wonder the transgender issue is such a clusterfuck.

So if women after menopause are all sexless, because in your view the sole criteria for sex is present-day ability to generate and release gametes, how come when we undergo blood and other kind of testing, the female reference ranges are still used? The fact that women over 50 are sexless is news to the medical profession.

Also, if after 50 or so, only men have sex and women are without a sex, how do you account for the enormous physical differences between the sexes that emerge after that age? Such as older-elderly women's higher likelihood of being exposed to and contracting Covid compared to men during the height of the pandemic - but older-elderly women's much lower likelihood of ending up in an ICU and dying of Covid than men of the same age.

If human embryos, fetuses and children are sexless until puberty of adolescence, how do you account for all the physical differences between male and female humans of those ages? How do you explain that differences in the placental cells of XY, SRY+ and XX, SRY- human blastocysts have been found at 5-6 days after fertilization, at the time when implantation in the uterine wall occurs and the placenta begins to form to connect the fetal and maternal circulatory systems?

BTW, since in your view all women "of a certain age" are sexless and therefore presumably no longer count as women, what do you propose we be called? Former women? 46,XX people who've outlived our "sell-by date"? Or just plain over the hill? Hags? Crones?

But quite agree with you about the outright "lunacy over sex and gender these days". Though feminism itself is responsible for much of that, and a general scientific illiteracy for much of the rest. The blind - and the charlatans, grifters, and political opportunists - leading the blind.

I beg to differ from this gentleman. Trans is short (in this context) for transgender. Now, I know what sex I am. I was born female, I have menstruated, reproduced and now have ceased menstruating. Gender is not sex. I was never aware of having a gender until this ideology emerged, when I realised I must have had one all along. So I am a transgender woman because I identify as someone who has a gender, as opposed to someone who hasn't. And I've been living this identity for some time. I shall be applying for a GRC when the Scottish government implements the act. And I hope other women will also consider this course of action.

if a man can arbitrarily call himself a woman or a trans woman, because “trans women are women” then wouldn’t it stand to reason that a woman could arbitrarily call herself a trans woman?

it makes as much sense as the rest of this gender nonsense. i love your idea and i will consider doing this as well just to annoy these confused men.
