Another one that is so sad. That he tried to kill himself when he was only 12 fills my heart with sorrow. Seems living in Portland didn't help -- that place has become Ground Zero for the woke/DEI/trans ideology mix, and I'd say it's proof of how destructive that belief system is. Rest in peace, dear young one.
yes, clearly if only society at large had played into his delusions, this teenager would instead be thriving as a transwoman right now /s. it's almost like making radical outside changes and forcing people to play a game of mental gymnastics around you constantly doesn't actually fix inner turmoil.
kids his age used to be able to rely on adults to put their pain in perspective. suffering children do not have the life experience to understand and deal with their troubles. they need to be told “this will pass” by someone older and wiser. they *do not* need to be told “this will never end unless you find a way to control the perceptions of the people around you. and if you should fail in this, suicide is the only possibly outcome.”
Poor kid. I can see how an already mentally unwell kid, grieving heavily, could decide "if I'm a different person, that will fix my problems". For adults to pretend the same is utterly foolish; we know that's not how anything works. There is no escape from yourself.
As an aside, I love that Mushroom hoodie *so much*!
I live near Portland. Came here to see if you had heard the news about this poor kid. Looks like you did. Such a sad thing. The trans ideology stuff here is absolutely off the charts. The libraries prominently display transgender books for kids, even in the more conservative areas south of Portland. They put the books on top of piles and within reach in the kids' areas. It's absolutely vile.
Honestly, I don't think books about LGBT, or "gender" identity, or anything to do with "where babies come from" should be in a children's section of a library or classroom. If parents want those books, they should buy them and have them in their homes not in public libraries or schools. Maybe it's just me, I think all that should be taught at home or ordered on the Internet when you have a credit or debit card in your own name. I am willing to hear another point of view on that.
Maybe I am old fashioned, I miss the days when society told children to love themselves as who they are and accept imperfection or being different as being yourself. I am an old woman - I am 59 years old. I liked the way it used to be - you knew Sigfried and Roy were not 2 brothers, but as long as they didn't bother anyone about it, basically nobody bothered them. or the girl who wore an oversized shirt, cut her hair, chose a boy's name and at some point, met a guy she liked, and her appearance began to match her chromosomes. No puberty blockers, no testosterone, just young people going through a phase - she would still use the girl's bathroom, locker room, etc. If she didn't' grow out of it, you just assumed she was homosexual and she would live a different life as an adult. no big speeches, no preferred pronouns, just living her life quietly as herself. I am happier not knowing or ignoring it.
Wonder if the parents of all these mentally ill kids will ever admit to themselves that they had a hand in their self deletion? So sad so many people have been brainwashed to believe this trash.
Sadly, no. Going "back" is hard for all of us to do. To admit a mistake, to make amends, to admit ignorance or bias or being caught up in something. It's incredibly hard for all of us, even when the stakes are nowhere near as high as they are for a child's life or well-being.
Honestly, my real hope is that some obvious example pushes the culture beyond a tipping point. Then, overnight, "no one" will have been in favor of transing kids. Saying "no" will become the socially acceptable answer, and then all this will crumble away
But it won't bring back kids like this one, or heal bodies, or reunite families.
