Enjoy! I'm jealous. Your comment " You can see the shadow approaching from the horizon." Gave me chills as I remembered it happening in Penzance in 1999. Great memory.

I'm getting all indigenous on this & staying inside until it passes. I have done it before and it is surreal how animals also get very quiet during this time. But enjoy this time if you do go see it.

According to the Haudenausaunee aka the Iroquois, a solar eclipse in the 12th century was the omen that began the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. There's apparently a tribal gathering in NY to watch the one on Monday. It is definitely very surreal. I'm watching it from Texas with the Northern/ Western European side of my family.

Have fun & report back, many of the four corners nations sit it out, since we see it the death & rebirth of the sun. Interesting fact on the Iroquois.

I had no idea! In Iroquois creation story the sky women fell through a hole in the sky so I assume the fact that the eclipse looks like a random hole in the sky factors into the cultural attitude that this is a sign of some kind.

Use a pair of binoculars. Don't look through them, point them at the eclipsing sun, with the eye-lenses pointed at a sheet of paper. You will see the crescent sun on the paper. Also, if you are under a tree, you will notice the crescents coming through the leaves.

I prefer to watch it online after! I just had cataract surgeries, very thankful for restored sight. Thanks for this Ex. I've been thinking about the issues for those who are uninformed.

It gets cold during a solar eclipse but somehow the sun cycle isn't considered relevant to climate change....
