I believe this Mohammad dude was known to the homeowners. When this went around as a demonstration of what's going on in Sweden, with no go zones for police and so on, the intruder was identified as a former boyfriend of the woman. That's the best I can do on my childhood Norwegian and my 2 semesters of Swedish.
Sometimes people have a hard time seeing a situation for what it is because they can't imagine that someone would do whatever thing they're doing; often because they can't imagine themselves doing it (whatever "it" may be), or they don't know anyone who has, etc. It's an interesting phenomenon.
I would personally not do a thing like this, nor do I know anyone who would or has, but sometimes I watch videos of people doing horrible things to others just so I can have the image in my mind, if you will. I have lines, certainly, but this kind of situation--I don't want to be in a similar situation and mis-identify it as it's happening and end up stabbed because it's so unimaginable to me.
If it was me, Mohamed would have gotten a full-strength stomp to the forehead with a thick rubber-sole work boot, the instant his head came within range.
That would have a perilously high probability of being fatal, but, in this situation I'm just not immediately seeing any less lethal form of self-defense. Better judged by twelve than carried by six.
There are actually four different threat reactions: fight, flight, freeze, and fawn. The victim here tried the latter methods of conflict avoidance. If you see a weapon, choose immediately from the first two options and be prepared to follow through.
Mace might have worked, if they'd had any on hand, and not been lethal. Although the intruder might be vengeful and then escalate later. How could Sweden not see this guy as a criminal? He needs jail. Yikes.
