Speaking of Disney villains, remember that crazy salacious bit in Pinocchio, where the old man (the coachman) is urging some henchmen to help him bring boys (but only the bad boys!) to Pleasure Island? This was made in 1940, so clearly Disney has had some pretty strange issues for a long time.

Here's a clip of the scene; hold on to your hat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDNzN2fv5bQ

Wow, that’s far more disturbing than I remembered. Fun fact: Michael Jackson is said to have used the Pleasure Island scenes from Pinocchio to groom his child victims.

I didn't know that about Michael Jackson! I discovered the Pleasure Island thing in Jordan Peterson's video about Pinocchio; he didn't seem to get the sexual connotation in the Pleasure Island thing, or perhaps he just didn't want to mention it.

It’s a sexual connotation and also analogous, I think, for a fear of puberty itself and how it changes children’s bodies irrevocably and causes them to be “slaves” to their sexual desires. In a way that aspect of Pinocchio kind of predicted the non-binary part of what became the gender ideology movement. Terrify children with the looming prospect of their changing, sexualized bodies and then offer them drugs that promise to keep them pure+innocent children for longer. But of course that IS “Pleasure Island” and before they realize it they’re already on the conveyor belt.

I had a very healthy and sheltered childhood (1980s/90s) but the involuntary transformation scenes in Pinocchio, Willy Wonka, and one of the Care Bears movies really distressed me (you can watch it here at the 12:10 mark https://youtu.be/49ekb7xW8gU ) ...yet as an adult those same things carry an admitted sexual fascination for me (but certainly not to the level of wishing to play-enact it irl!!!). This is another aspect of psycho-sexual development with horrifying implications in this day and age: what scares children, later tends to become sexually arousing to them after puberty. So kids who were physically abused (hit, beaten) may as adults be turned on by physical abuse in the bedroom, etc. Exposing kids to sexual or violent stuff too early is very, very bad--yet it seems like 100% of kids who go to public schools and/or have access to social media end up being exposed to hardcore porn by age 10 no matter how careful their parents are, as their peers share it on their phones.

I still listen to old episodes of the radio show Loveline from 20+ years ago and the hosts predicted that society would basically get to where it is now within another generation because trauma tends to perpetuate itself and has been increasing exponentially, with the internet further supercharging and commodifying it. I digress.

tldr: we’re f**ked.

I haven’t ever watched/read any Jordan Peterson but might check out his Pinocchio vid, thanks.
