There's a contingent of aggressive, loud females on the T in my town. While they are scary, its in the Audrey Hale mode as opposed to anything resembling 'manly.' What these people will do though, is call the police at the drop of a hat, because they "get upset" if someone presents them with truth. And for some reason, despite being "defunded" the police have to arrive immediately.
This is not the UK where there is no first amendment guarantee of free speech. There, the police can and do cite members of the public for wrongspeak.
Here, speech, even extremely insulting speech, is generally protected from prosecution assuming it isn't defamatory or isn't intended to defraud someone.
A person would need to make a serious threat that would make a reasonable person fear for their safety or combine insulting speech with violence to give the police grounds to make an arrest.
Of course, if the trans person goes to pieces and starts making a commotion because they're upset by something someone said, the cop might arrest the speaker for breaching the piece. Now, that would not be just because it's the trans person who is actually breaching the peace, not the speaker. But cops don't always do the right thing. That's why it is important to capture such confrontations on video, ideally from a number of different locations.
