Happy Detrans Awareness Day!
For Californians, the Sacramento State Capitol Demonstration is 3/14 at 12 PM!
I am still recovering from the WoLF conference this weekend. It really was exactly what I needed, being around my sisterhood of science, focused on the real and the true, forming new connections and offering and receiving support.
I wanted to send out a quick note to contribute to the chorus of voices that are speaking out today to raise awareness about detransitioning - the process of coming out of the fog of confusion of trans ideology and beginning to put the pieces of yourself that you once could not accept back together and stitching them home into your story. Anyone who has left the Church of Trans has come a long way, through the self-loathing of apostasy, underneath the betrayal behind the loss of faith, over the hurdles to understanding thrown in your path by demagogues and deniers.
Leaving the church means leaving the hope you had once that you had found the final answer to your pain. It means a new kind of suffering as you confront the reality that your friendships were supported by a foundation of sand. Now you must go forth and find new answers and new connections. You may not be sure that you can do it, having been so wrong before. Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment. We all start off wrong - some would call it innocent - and progressively move towards a more correct understanding. You are not the person you were then, and what is to come will not be what came before. What got us here will not get us there. I am here for you and so are many other people. We will get through this, together. We always do.
Beautifully written.
You are such an amazing writer. It’s great to see you happy. I’m so glad that you got to be in your element.
